Media Montage Podcast 135: TV Superhero Season Recap

We've already seen Batman, Superman, Iron Man and Captain America on the big screen this year, so this week we move to the small screen and take look back the at the spectacular superhero season that's winding down on television.

DC's Arrow-verse has left us with lots of exciting teasers for next season while SHIELD's biggest nemesis seems to be the Nielson ratings.  What direction will the Flash and Legends of Tomorrow finales take the Arrow-verse?  Is Netflix the true future of Marvel's small screen offering?  Is Gotham still on?

We answer these questions and more in Episode 135 of the Media Montage Podcast!

Media Montage Podcast 128: Superman Returns (2006)

Superman returned in 2006's Superman Returns...but he didn't return for long. With the 10th anniversary of this Bryan Singer film Bruce and Larry decided to examine this odd entry in the canon of superhero films.

Brandon Routh, Kate Bosworth, James Marsden, and Kevin Spacey star in this not-quite-a-sequel to the Richard Donner Superman films.  Superman has been gone for five years, and returns to a surprising new world. Heavily influenced by the earlier Superman films, this movie attempts to look back to the past, while trying to pave the way for a new series of films. This reboot attempt didn't lead to any new films, but instead we got Man of Steel in another reboot in 2013 and Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which comes out today.

Why did Superman Returns fail to return in another sequel? What works with this film? What doesn't? How much nostalgia is too much? Which actor would have been better in a marquis role?  All that and more in episode 128 of the Media Montage Podcast!

Media Montage 113: Superheroes Outside of Comics

Superheroes are everywhere these days, and they all came from comic books right?

Wrong! Lots of superhero characters emerged from TV, Film and Animation, independent of the four color page. Hancock, Defendor, MANTIS and the Greatest American Hero all originated outside of comic books.

Parody, homage and ripoffs of superhero concepts are discussed as well in Episode 113 of the Media Montage Podcast!

Media Montage Podcast 92: The Filth

Who are we really?  Is this the only universe, or do other worlds exist above or below us in different planes of reality?  Can the world be prevented from becoming TOO weird?

This week Bruce and Larry look at The Filth, a Vertigo series by Grant Morrison, Chris Weston and Gary Erskine from 2002.  We examine this very unusual story of Ned Slade and Gary Feely and try to find out what it means, or at least some of it.

Parapersonas, Anti-People, iLife, and Status Q in Episode 92 of the Media Montage Podcast.
