Media Montage Podcast 134: The Creative Process

Where do you get your ideas? Once you have your idea, then what? Larry and Bruce explain their approach to the Creative Process.

Paper, pen and ink or digital tablets and stylus? How do analog and digital approaches factor into the process. Bruce and Larry go digital at different points in their processes and for different reasons.

They tackle how they come up with ideas, and how they develop them and put them in front of an audience.  Is there one right way to create? Is there one right REASON to create?

Find out the answers to those questions and more in Episode 134 of the Media Montage Podcast!

Media Montage Podcast 133 - Captain America: Civil War (2016) & Marvel Comics: Civil War (2006)

Captain America vs Iron Man! The 13th film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is here! Captain America: Civil War takes its story from the 2006 Marvel Comics crossover event and 7 issue miniseries.

Which medium tells a better story? Can you get a good movie with a cast featuring a dozen established heroes while introducing two new ones? How does Bruce REALLY feel about comics crossovers and events? What is a Stabbity Jones?
Find out the answers to those questions and more in Episode 133 of the Media Montage Podcast!

Media Montage Podcast 120: What If? Stories

What if the Nazis won WW2? What if the South won the Civil War? What if Spider-Man joined the Fantastic Four? What if? What if? What if?  Larry and Bruce take a look at the concept of 'What If?' stories, alternate histories, parallel universes and Elseworlds.

They examine the fascination we have with considering a single changed event and all the ramifications inherent in such a change.

They even posit a real world 'What If?' scenario: What if Marvel had compromised with or met the demands of the Image Comics founders. Would we even have the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Would we have Spawn?

All that and more in Episode 120 of the Media Montage Podcast!

Media Montage 113: Superheroes Outside of Comics

Superheroes are everywhere these days, and they all came from comic books right?

Wrong! Lots of superhero characters emerged from TV, Film and Animation, independent of the four color page. Hancock, Defendor, MANTIS and the Greatest American Hero all originated outside of comic books.

Parody, homage and ripoffs of superhero concepts are discussed as well in Episode 113 of the Media Montage Podcast!

Media Montage Podcast 102: Stripped (2014)

Newspaper Comic Strips. They used to have massive impact on popular culture, their characters were world famous, as were their creators. The decline of newspapers has led aspiring strip creators to publish on the web.

Interviews with Jim Davis, Cathy Guisewise, Mort Walker, Scott Kurtz, Kate Beaton and many more tell us the story of a dramatic shift in a beloved industry.

Larry and Bruce discuss this documentary and some of the issues it raises in episode 102 of the Media Montage Podcast!

Media Montage Podcast 98: (Pop) Culture War

It seems like everyone is willing to go to war over everything in pop culture these days.

Not literal war, but flame wars, wars of words, and on and on.

Battles over art, politics, the politics of art, and what should and shouldn't be seen have led Bruce and Larry to take a look at the Culture War as it is framed by their love of Pop Culture, specifically comics.  Bruce and Larry get passionate about the urge to do battle over the things they love, and try to find some solutions.  They get negative at times, but try really hard to come around to some positive steps to make social media interactions enjoyable.

A very different kind of discussion, that probably doesn't solve anything in a very honest and passionate Episode 98 of the Media Montage Podcast.
