Media Montage Podcast 136: Denver Zine Fest 2016

Bruce discusses his second experience tabling at Denver Zine Fest 2016!

For Larry it was a weekend of firsts! First time tabling, first time out West, first time flying!  Denver Zine Fest 2016 brings our hosts together for the very first time.  Did they take the fest by storm?  Or do slow moments cause self loathing and second guessing? How does one determine a successful event? Does Larry drink the Kool-Aid?

We answer these questions and more in Episode 136 of the Media Montage Podcast!

Media Montage Podcast 129: Whatcha Mean, What's a Zine?

What's a zine?  It's a small do-it-yourself publication, self published, on any number of topics, from the extremely personal to general interest. How do you make a zine? Comics, collage, poetry, essays and rants fill the pages of thousands of zines.

This week Larry and Bruce take a look at the 2006 book Whatcha Mean, 'What's a Zine?' by Esther Watson with Illustrations by Mark Todd featuring contributions by numerous other zinesters.   We look at this book as a source of inspiration, how-to on content, format, distribution and more.   They talk about the history of zines from the Underground Comics to the Riot Grrrl movement of the 90s.

They also discuss zines as folk-art, preparations for the 2016 Denver Zinefest, and the wave of inspiration brought on by this remarkable book in episode 129 of the Media Montage Podcast!

Another do-it-yourself discussion from 2014! MMP Episode 79: Making Mini-Comics

Media Montage 108: HeroesCon and Denver Zine Fest

In the world of comics, summer means conventions and festivals.

This week Bruce and Larry each report on con season. Larry attended Heroes Con in Charlotte N.C. (June 19-21) as an attendee and files his report, while Bruce reports on the more intimate Denver Zine Fest (June 28) from the other side of the table as a vendor.

Two very different experiences, and two very different reports.  Travel trouble, and the importance of cover design get analyzed.

What is up with the Colonel, and a freebie turns into a sale!
Both sides of the convention table in Episode 108 of the Media Montage Podcast!
