Predictive Programming: New X-Men

Larry here: Kicking off my hay day of comic collecting was Grant Morrison's run on X-Men dubbed New X-Men. The first issue of his run, #114 came out in July 2001, featuring Cassandra Nova, Professor Charles Xavier's evil twin sister who launches a Sentinel attack on Genosha city in issue #115 marked August 2001.
(Below)Magneto viewing the Sentinel attack first hand as it hits his tower in a scene all too familiar, and subsequent aftermath upon Genosha City.

 More after the jump...

(Below) Smoke billowing up from the destroyed city.
Ground Zero, as seen from space.

Dated September 2001 issue #116 is the final part of the three issue "E is for Extinction" arc, and the aftermath of the Sentinel's rampage can be seen.

In a macabre piece of brevity from the X-Man Beast as he holds remnants of a mutant citizen.

More scenes from the issue as the destruction that is so reminiscent of Ground Zero can put a chill down your spine to think of how close this is to home.
I am not going to claim that all of this was planned, I don't know. Some things just make no sense, and the truth may never be known in full. But for the happenstance of this arc and reality to coincide, it leaves a lot of loose threads.
