Media Montage Podcast 87: Comix - Best of Bijou Funnies/Apex Treasury of Underground Comics

Political, pornographic, provocative and printed DIY!

The Underground Comix movement emerged in the late 60s as a stark alternative to Marvel DC and Archie.

This week Bruce and Larry take a look at The Best of Bijou Funnies/Apex Treasury of Underground Comics, a 300 plus page flipbook that compiles stories from some of the greats of the movement including R. Crumb, Spain Rodriguez, Jayzey Lynch, Gilbert Shelton, Shary Flenniken and Bobby London.

We discuss the importance of the movement on comic book history. We talk the art, the politics and more in episode 88 of the Media Montage Podcast!

Comix Joint is a good resource for info on the undergrounds.
